Parameter
Q1: What are the main differences between S16, S17, and S30 series fittings?
A: S16 and S17 are made of zinc alloy with chromate finish, while S30 is made of steel 65MN with zinc plating. S16 and S30 are snap-in type for quick installation without tools, whereas S17 uses NPS thread with locknut for secure mounting. S16/S17 are certified to both UL514B and CSA-C22.2 No.56, while S30 is certified to UL514B only. S30 is specifically designed for lighting fixture applications.
Q2: Can these fittings be used in outdoor applications?
A: These fittings have an IP40 rating, which means they are suitable for indoor dry locations and protected outdoor environments. They are not recommended for direct exposure to rain, moisture, or harsh weather conditions. For outdoor applications requiring higher IP ratings, please consult our waterproof series products or contact our technical team for recommendations.
Q3: How do I install the snap-in type fittings (S16 and S30)?
A: Installation is simple and tool-free. First, ensure the knockout size matches (1/2 inch for both S16 and S30). Push the fitting through the knockout hole from inside the junction box until you hear a click - this indicates the snap-in mechanism has locked. Then screw in your PRWG or PRWA flexible metal conduit from the outside. No locknut or additional hardware is required for snap-in installation.
Q4: What is the maximum temperature these fittings can withstand?
A: All three series (S16, S17, and S30) have an operating temperature range of -50°C to +200°C (-58°F to +392°F). This wide temperature range makes them suitable for various applications including lighting fixtures, HVAC systems, and industrial equipment. The high-temperature capability is particularly important for S30 series used in lighting applications where heat dissipation from ballasts or LED drivers may be a concern.
Q5: Are these fittings compatible with all types of flexible metal conduits?
A: These fittings are specifically designed to work with our PRWG (Galvanized Steel Greenfield/Reduced Wall) and PRWA (Aluminum Reduced Wall) series flexible metal conduits. Available sizes range from 3/8" to 1" depending on the series. Please refer to the parameter table to ensure proper size matching. While they may physically fit other manufacturers' conduits, we recommend using Kaiflex conduits to ensure UL/cUL compliance and optimal performance.
